Why photos get sent back
These come up again and again in parents' stories on passport forums. We check every photo for them before you pay, and tell you how to fix the shot.

A shadow on the face
Your phone or arm blocks the light. Turn so the window is in front of you.

A hand in the frame
Support the head from under the sheet, or let the baby lie flat.

Grey, wrinkled bedding
Folds read as shadows. Pull a plain white sheet tight first.

Pacifier or toy
Nothing in the mouth or hands. Try right after a feed.
How it works

Baby on their back on a white sheet, you straight above with the phone. Take a few in a row.

Light, shadows, hands, pacifier, eyes. If something is off, we say what and how to fix it.

A 2×2 in photo plus a 4×6 sheet. Print the sheet as a regular 4×6 photo at any pharmacy photo counter.
Two easy setups

U.S. rules accept a baby whose eyes are not fully open, and the UK accepts closed eyes under age one. A sleeping newborn is often the easiest photo you'll take.
